Beauty Quote of the Day, from Estée Lauder:

Estee Lauder_Young.png

"In a perfect world, we’d all be judged on the sweetness of our souls, but in our less than perfect world, the woman who looks pretty has a distinct advantage and, usually, the last word," [...] "You may have great inner resources, but they don’t show up as confidence when you don’t feel pretty. People are more apt to believe you and like you when you know you look fine. And when the world approves, self-respect is just a little easier."

Article by Garance Franke-Ruta on The Myth of Natural Beauty {Beauty & Society}

bette_davis.jpg

There is an interesting op ed by journalist Garance Franke-Ruta about what she calls The Myth of Natural Beauty that is especially characteristic of American society in her opinion. She contrasts this general orientation to another one, that of the French who, on the contrary, know how to and indeed do cultivate beauty as an art (de vivre, I might add).

It seems clear to me that most societies in the world privilege natural beauty and in fact this ties in with the phenomenon of agism as applied to women. Once a woman loses her youthful aura, there is rarely anymore salvation for her in the eyes of men in these societies. I think that France is one of the few countries I know and perhaps the most characteristic in that regard that in fact value the beauty, chic, elegance, and seduction of older women. If there is one place in the world where a woman of 90 years old could be sincerely thought to be beautiful that would be France....

Docteur Glamour by Bourjois {New Beauty Product} {Lipstick}

Docteur_Glamour.jpg

Bourjois issued a new lippy in November called Docteur Glamour. As the name indicates, it is meant to be both a lip balm and a lipstick. A spell of 8 hour hydratation is guaranteed through the use of shea and mango butters and beeswax. Its texture is reportedly very unctuous. Silicone micro-beads as well as synthetic polymeres make application effortless with a glide-on effect. The buzz is that it's one of the best lip balms currently available on the market and a perfect lippy for winter.

There are 12 different hues.
